NURSERY (Ages 3-4)
At Rosmarins Day Camp, we offer a full day nursery program. Our dedicated staff greets your child each day, in a warm, caring environment. Our brand-new camp house is set up like a nursery classroom. Each area is carefully supervised, and counselors encourage children to participate in every activity. Very often, activities are theme-based. Themes may include author studies, “bear week”, and “bug week”. A typical day may include the following activities:
Upon Arrival: 45 minutes of indoor free play, which may include imaginative play, arts and crafts, painting, manipulative materials, constructions, puzzles and games, and/or block area.
Clean Up: Children use labels, picture clues, or shapes to identify where items belong. All are encouraged to help in the cleanup process and are recognized for their efforts.
Meeting Time: Our brief meetings serve to greet and welcome each child, introduce the day’s activities, and sing a song, tell a story, or do some finger plays.
Snack Time: Children enjoy a healthy snack in a quiet outdoor picnic area.
Outdoor Time: The Rosmarins Nursery is equipped with a private play area where the children have many opportunities to develop their large motor skills in the sandbox, on the climbing apparatus, on the swings, during group games or in the private heated swimming pool.
Lunch: Counselors sit with children to encourage healthy eating habits and independent clean-up. The best and most interesting conversations happen during lunch.
Rest: Rest time begins with a story. Children rest on blankets they bring from home and relax or sleep for 45 minutes while listening to comforting music.
Afternoon Snack: ice cream
Specials: Campers enjoy instruction from our specialist instructors each week in the areas of : music and movement: singing, instruments, musical games and movement are included, cooking: in a state-of-the-art kitchen,
nature, animal care, environmental exploration, sports and games: with size-appropriate equipment
In addition, the nursery receives swimming instruction from certified teachers 3 times per week.
Rainy Day Schedule: Children enjoy an extended center time, indoor sports activities, art projects and music and movement.
Our nursery program is a young child’s paradise! We offer a gated, self-contained facility (completely remodeled in 2010!). The nursery facility includes a large indoor playroom, private playground, custom swimming pool, and picnic area. We provide a staff –to-camper ratio that far surpasses all industry standards. And our camp-wide specialty staff makes regularly scheduled visits to the nursery to provide on-going enrichment and learning opportunities for our youngest campers. Our dedicated nursery professionals give special consideration to planning a comprehensive, age-appropriate program, which includes:
- swim lessons (provided by our trained American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors)
- music & movement
- participation in many camp-wide special event days
- specialized sports program, tailored to the needs of our youngest campers
- arts & crafts
- story time
- outdoor play
Nursery Staff
Our first priority at Rosmarins Day Camp is to keep each child safe and happy. Rosmarins’ staff is dedicated, creative and caring. Our Nursery Camp Director Is a NYS certified teacher with a masters in Early Childhood Education. Our junior counselors are college students who are pursuing careers in education. Staff to child ratio is 1:3, ensuring that each child has the attention needed to feel secure and happy while at camp.
